Was at my local bobcat dealer today and couldn't believe the hours on their used stuff. I've been trying to stay in the 1500-2000 hrs range and they have bobcats around 4-5000 hours. I run johndeere. For 10 grand you need to rent. I just spent half that on tracks. And to the above post. I got 400 hrs on my last set of tracks. All depends on how much asphalt you are on. But remember this on owning a skid steer. Every time you get worked on. Plan on spending a few hundred dollars. If you rent it and it breaks they fix it.
Unless you have a natural aptitude for running skid steers I don't think you will "learn" the controls in a hour. Skids are a difficult machine to run for most and my hat goes off to all GOOD operators. 27000 sq. ft. is not that large of an area and ( we use a JD X748 with loader and 2 guys) normally would have that sod ready in about 5 hours. Have you ever used a dingo or any other mini-skid? Granted they are not as quick as a regular skid but they have there applications. It is 100% quicker than a wheelbarrel. There is no way one man can load a wheelbarrel, transport it, dump it, and return faster than a mini-skid.
