Currently running a Cat289D Skidsteer and have verified that my lift pump has gone out. I have unplugged the fuel pump and probed it with 12V only for it to start smoking. Went to CAT bought a new Pump, only to see I’m getting no voltage at the fuel pump plug. Checked the fuses, none blown.Most machines are equipped with a fuel transfer pump that is electric. So several years ago I was told of a suggestion from Case to install an electric fuel pump. Which I did. It has worked very well. Improved starting and seems to have helped performance.
Check for fuel flow on the discharge side of the lift pump before you replace it. If you keep up with the inline filter the lift pump is very durable. Shutoff solenoids can and do fail, too. Digging a little deeper I found the ECU relay by the battery isn’t working. Relay is good and I have power but no ground there. And what I suspect is the ecu fuse has no power.
