Level Best offers a range of machine-controlled grading boxes for skid steers, compact track . It's been awhile since I've been on the forum. I'll throw my 2 cents in. I have the Level Best with the box blade and dual masts. Previously l had the Level Best push/pull blade with a single mast. I much prefer the box blade over the push/pull blade. The dual masts goes without saying which is better. Then the skid steer with laser best to finish with in .25 on inch. It’s that good. Any parking lots a dozer, stick laser, string lines to get all the typical elevations done properly. The skid steer with laser best is not efficient in that work. It’s best moving less than a foot of loose material on flat floors or single slopes.

Thats a lot of prep work. I have also pondered a grader attachment set up with a laser control system. The grader made by Van Boh is the best built I think. Heavy duty, all electronic controlled moldboard (unless you have the laser controled package). The graders electronics hook to the skid steer allowing it to be moved by switches on the joy . Dozer vs skid and laser box. Jump to Latest 21 - 25 of 25 Posts. 1 2. TPendagast

Make sure the blade is level. Also very nice for grade when you don't want to have an extra employee checking grade. 1/2" is great, we would compact base anyways and you will compact 1/2 away in crusher run. The idea is to use the correct amount of concrete or asphalt. I don't see why you could not do the same on a skid steer bucket.

Visibility is terrible to the left side where the hoses are routed. I constantly found myself leaning forward to try watch the left cutting edge corner. I also found better control if I tilted back the loader function to allow the skid pads to float the blade. I also controlled the cut by rolling the blade back onto the skid pads. Cat D5 with Hystat would be nice. If it's just finish grading a skid steer with a Harley rake would be best. If anything, a track loader with a 6 foot blade would get the job done, but a D4 or 5 Cat would be best for moving the most yds. per hour because of the Hp. You should look into a small Komatsu dozer.

I have an Apache dual grade box and use 2 5+ readers. I do football fields and such and I will grade to +/- .02. My laser guy told me I was ridiculous. Thats just what I do tho. I follow up with a level best dual plane box blade and make it like glass. I just bought it 2 years ago. Never really ever had a real problem with the level best. This is what I used: A skid steer, a ripper/scarifier attachment and an FFC Preparator. There is an absolute science in achieving those incredibly flat, rock free, yards. Soil conditions, moisture conditions all play a part.

The tractor/skid steer argument has been beaten to death. If you work on lawns, buy a tractor. If you move a lot of dirt, get a skid steer because it'll bury a tractor 3 ways to Sunday when it comes to moving large quantities of material. It's been awhile since I've been on the forum.
