I have decided it's much easier to disassemble the starter while on the engine. Remove the 2 bolts 3/8 wrench that hold the end cap on and the small one 5/16 wrench that connects the power strap from the starter to the solenoid. Then the 2 solenoid bolts 3/8 wrench. The starter solenoid acts, pulling the spur forward, but fails to engage the starter motor contacts unless the spur gear was meshed into the flywheel gear. Rather then replacing the starters, my mechanic inserted a 1/16"-1/8" shim on the starter bolts between the starter and its . A user asks for help with a 1992 Case 1845C skid loader that has a hard time starting. Other users suggest possible solutions, such as checking the ground connections, installing a starter relay solenoid, or replacing the key switch. When there isn't enough power to sustain the magnetic field you hear the starter click as the plunger is released and grabbed. Hopefully that will shed a little light on the subject. Do you mean the starter solenoid or the stop switch, the starter circuit will have a neutral start switch, the stop switch could have a relay, look in the parts book, you can use a temporary jump wire to power the solenoid to get going. I checked voltage while cranking at the solenoid and I have 8 volts. Is there a kit available to add a start relay, or can i make something myself? Anybody had this problem before?
